The Hard Role of the Trucker's Wives

Being a truck driver is not an easy task. Being behind the wheel of a truck implies long periods of time away from home, from the family and the friends. Loneliness is usually the only one by your side, and it is the only one by the side of the trucker’s wife too. Truckers’ wives must run their homes while their husbands are thousands of kilometers away.

Home is one of the hardest battlefields someone can ever find. Housewives must learn to deal with several complicated and different situations that usually, are handled by “the man of the house”. By force of loneliness, trucker’s wives must deal with the house chores, the emotional needs of the kids, the mechanic, the plumber, the cable guy, the gardener, the neighbors plus her own need for the loved one.

Therefore, trucker’s wives must learn how to fill their time so that they do not think a lot about that husband who left for days or weeks because of his work. Nevertheless, it is important that within all the activities planned, a wife always takes time for herself. Getting involved in a course at college or starting up a gym is a very good therapy. In this way, she will not feel that her entire life is going fast without dedicating a little bit to herself.

Moreover, trucker’s wives must try not to sit down and mourn while the husband is away. Positive thoughts are an excellent way to be healthy under any circumstance. Always try to remember that if the man is not at home, he is on the road working for you. Furthermore, if you think it is necessary to relieve some of the stress through tears, go ahead and do it, have a good cry every now and then.

It is advisable to keep in touch with your husband. Nevertheless, it is no good to talk about problems; while he is away, there is not much he can do to help. Try to manage conversations as light as possible and positive. Anytime you think of something you really need to tell him, write it down. Keep a list of things he must know, or a journal with all the daily happenings of the family. Be honest all the time about the way you are feeling with any situation at home and when he comes back, talk about it.
