Three Giants of Trucking

Size has always been an obsession of the human being. The ranking of the smallest and of the largest one is present in many fields and disciplines. The trucking business also cares about size. Big rigs are known for its great size, weight and power. Engine and truck manufacturers are busy investigating the improvement on size, power and speed.

Mining trucks are requiring more hauling and weight capacity and the manufacturers of these heavy trucks are aware of it and they have started a race for the biggest truck. This race has cropped the harvest. Three mining trucks appear on the list: the Caterpillar 797, the Liebherr 282 and the Terex Titan truck. The Caterpillar 797 truck is from the United States, Liebherr 282 is a truck that comes from Switzerland and the Terex Titan truck was born in Canada. The Terex Titan is a giant of 235 tons of weight that can haul up to 550 tons. The engine of this truck has a power of 3300 hp and it is 22.6 feet tall and 66 feet long. It has 11 feet tall tires, each one weighing 4 tons. To feed the engine of this truck you need 800 imperial gallons of fuel. Liebherr 282 can haul 400 tons and the engine has a maximum power of 3,650 hp. It is 21 feet tall and 47 feet long with a fuel capacity of 1250 gallons.

Even though T 282 B (Liebherr 282) is smaller than Titan, this truck counts with more hauling power and technological innovations. Defined by experts as the best of the largest trucks in the world the Caterpillar 797B is now the king of the giants. The power of its engine reaches 3550 hp, it has a weight of almost of 624,000 kg and it has 47 feet of length and 21 feet of height. Cat 797 has a capacity of 380 tons of payload; with this weight it reaches the maximum speed of 67 kph.
