Owner Operator Business

Almost every worker wants independence. They have hopes and dreams; starting their own company is one of those.
For truck drivers, independence equals Owner Operator jobs. An Owner Operator is a truck driver that has his/her own truck and seeks contracts to carry the freight of any company. Some owner operators have contracts with certain trucking companies; others offer dedicated services to specific companies, hauling the freight without a contract.

Being an Owner Operator is not an easy business. If you are the boss it means that you are responsible for everything. You have to pay the gas, the costs of maintenance, life and health insurances and the legal issues. Owner Operators need help for the basics such as making a budget to specific help such as finding an accountant.

An Owner Operator has to decide whether or not to acquire insurances contracts, repair the truck, lease a truck or trailer, or even buy a new truck. Economical issues are just part of the problems that an Owner Operator faces every day. They also have to get the best freight hauling contracts. Longer hauls equal higher profits. Truckers must be aware of paper handling, DOT inspections, the good appearance of his/ her truck and much more. Some smart owner operators have more than one truck; some have a complete fleet to work with.
