United States highways are the main witnesses of hundreds of accidents that involve trucks. Due to the extremely high weight of these means of transportation (80,000 pounds or more), the magnitude of the accidents that they cause is amazing. Serious injuries and deaths are related with truck accidents. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the possible causes of those accidents so that they can be avoided in the future.
The number one reason for accidents to happen always involve human errors, either by the truck driver or the vehicle driver. In the case of truck drivers, there are a number of causes that can be eliminated if people had the will to do so. Many times, truck drivers do not fulfill all the governmental requirements to be driving such means of transportation. They do not count on enough qualifications and/or required training to be behind the wheel. If the trucking companies were a little more strict and careful when hiring its personnel, this could be easily avoided. Moreover, the companies must organize the release of freight so that their drivers don't have to deal with lots of pressure to meet tight schedules and/or deadlines so they won't have to drive over allowed speed limits.
Vehicle drivers must be careful to never drive in blind spots and/or no-zones of the trucks. Remember that due to the size of the trucks, there will always be areas that are invisible for the truck driver. Moreover, vehicle drivers must always try to keep enough distance from the back of the truck; remember that sometimes heavy loads are not properly secured and might loosen at any moment. Furthermore, drivers should never try to cut lines right in front of the truck or overtake the truck from the wrong side. Anytime regular drivers find a truck in their way, safety and precaution measures must be increased in order to preserve our lives.
Safety on the roads is everybody's issue. No one is absent of those problems, we all are undertaking the same level of risks. No matter if we are pedestrians, vehicle or truck drivers; we all must strive for the safety of the rest of people and mostly for OUR lives.
